Our Programs
Providence Children's Centre offers a choice of innovative programs to meet the needs of each child. Qualified teachers, therapists, and educational/therapeutic assistants work in each classroom, providing an intensive therapeutic and educational program. Each program is designed to make learning fun, with small class sizes and educational activities. An animated literacy approach is incorporated into each program to promote improved phonology and early literacy skills through story telling, movement and singing.
Our multi-sensory rooms, music program, swimming program, gyms and outdoor playgrounds enhance the learning experience.
We offer small group special education and integrated classrooms Monday to Friday: 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. or 12:45 - 3:30 p.m. Operates September to June with continuous enrollment year round.
Early Intervention Program: (13 - 30 months) (Main School only)
This unique program is designed to reach children at an early stage of rapid development. Small group sizes are valuable for stimulation and growth. Children learn through play in an integrated setting
Preschool Program: (2.5 - 4 years)
This enriched preschool program provides the children with learning opportunities through play, direct therapy intervention, social interaction, storytime, hands-on activities, field trips and individual and group discussions. The children develop self-confidence and a desire to learn.
Junior Kindergarten: (4 - 5 years)
The Junior Kindergarten program focuses on the children's learning and growth in all areas of development. This intensive educational and therapeutic program offers stimulating and challenging activities in a fun and playful environment.
Children will build social relationships; a strong, positive self-image and master the readiness skills needed for Kindergarten.
Kindergarten:
Our Kindergarten program attends to the general and specific learner expectations that are required by Alberta Learning and respond to the unique needs and strengths of each student. Our program fosters independence, decision-making activities and the ability to learn and to relate to others through exploration of the classroom and community environment.
Outreach:
We work with childcare centres and day homes to ensure that children with special needs are included in activities in their own neighbourhood. We determine what resources are needed to include a child in everyday activities with their peers, while still providing intensive educational and therapeutic programs designed for each child.
Fee nil. Operates September to June.
Daniel attends a French daycare in Calgary. Daniel's parents were concerned about the development of his speech and language, yet they wanted him to continue classes at his daycare. Through our outreach program, therapists from Providence now provide the consultation and treatment that Daniel requires.
Thanks to the support of his parents, therapist and the excellent staff at his Daycare, Daniel has made significant gains in both French and English. Just as important, he has closed the developmental gap with his peers. That means that Daniel will be able to enter kindergarten this September. And because he received support at the right time, and in the right place, we know Daniel will be ready for the challenges of school.
